I carry it in my mobile phone. here, i’ll show you…

I’m racing to get to the technical rehearsal for Access Arts end of year showing at West End. We have just done a rehearsal in my studio on the third floor and everyone else was on their way. I forgot my phone so had to return to Metro Arts and pick it up. As I was coming down the stairs again, a young artist stopped me in the foyer and talked to me. He told me that he had seen our play “HOME” at Queensland Theatre Company (part of the Diva Series 2015) in July and it had affected him enormously. “Let me show you” he said and he pulled out his mobile phone and there in the flap of the phone case was the ticket to HOME. “It reminds me” he said. I was so moved that a show that we produced so affected an audience member that he still carries around the ticket in his phone cover months after the event.

And I thought for a long time as I drove over to West End, parked the car and walked to the hall. I thought

“Margi, if you ever doubt what you are doing, remember this beautiful artist who really understood what you were trying to communicate”.

My message to the beautiful artist who was in the Metro Arts foyer on Saturday:

“Thank you! Thank you for caring enough to show me you cared. Sometimes I have doubts about why I do the work I do and when you are brave enough to say what happened for you, I know that I am brave enough to continue to create work about connection, about belonging and about re-creating who we are becoming and where we are going”.
