About Margi Brown Ash, PMACA

Margi’s professional life includes being a:

  • Registered Counsellor: creative arts studio, 4change. PMACA
  • Performer (Gold Matilda Award Best Actor 2007; Acting Commendation, Adelaide Fringe, 2009)
  • Director (Mouthful of Pins, The Big Ticket Season, Brisbane Powerhouse 2008, Too Much Individuality, QUT, 2009, Home Project, Metro Arts, 2009-2010; currently Associate Director/trainer of Imaginary Theatre and Artistic Director of bRash)
  • Devisor (co-writer/devisor The Knowings of Mary Poppins, published 2008) and
  • Lecturer, Educator (currently co-ordinating and teaching in Master of Counselling, Psychology and Counselling School QUT; Performance Studies, Creative Industries, QUT; private classes at 4change, Metro Arts) for over 30 years in Australia, London and New York.

Presently she facilitates workshops aimed at developing resilience and understanding of self using the arts. She also supervises experiential professional development workshops designed specifically for artists, educators and professionals in the humanities, arts and social sciences throughout Queensland. She works primarily with young adult artists, individuals in transition and children.

Margi is a committed supporter of the growing independent theatre industry in Brisbane. She is actively involved in several local theatre companies including nest ensemble, Imaginary Theatre Company, La Boite The Good Room and Grin & Tonic Theatre Company. She has recently formed a performing arm of 4change called bRash, focusing on collaborative practice

Margi is a registered member of Australian Counselling Association, registered teacher for Education Queensland,  a member (33years) and delegate of M.E.A.A (Actors Equity) and  a mentor for Equity’s mentor program.  She was a member of La Boite’s Creative Reference Group 2008 and is on the Advisory Board of both Imaginary Theatre Company and Grin & Tonic Theatre Company. She teaches Performance Studies within the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT and is a lecturer and co-ordinator for Masters of Counselling,  School of Psychology and Counselling, QUT. She also teaches private acting classes at Metro Arts and supervises teams using an arts based process.
